A man was injured for resisting a mugging bid in a Lyari neighbourhood on Sunday. Police said 26-year-old Raj Khan, son of Afzal Khan, was shot thrice when he resisted the mugging attempt near the Lyari Zonal Office, in the limits of Kalakot police station.
The injured person was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medical treatment. The victim was shot thrice in his upper torso by one of the two muggers who managed to escape. The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
Muggings are common in the streets of Karachi, with armed criminals robbing helpless citizens with impunity. They do not hesitate to shoot the victim dead if the mugging bid is resisted, creating an atmosphere of fear among the dwellers of the city.
In the last week of December 2019, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah directed the additional inspector general of the Karachi police to do whatever was needed to absolutely clear the mess of street crime in the city.
