The 2019 Creative Karachi Festival begins tomorrow

The upcoming third edition of the Creative Karachi Festival (CKF) is all set to take place at this weekend’s Alliance Francaise de Karachi after a good run in 2014 and 2016. A periodic feature on the cultural calendar of Karachi now, CKF is a two-day interdisciplinary arts and creativity event that has been converted into a’ mela’ weekend. It was launched as a’ non-stop party in the park’ by the very enthusiastic Sabeen Mahmud, founder of T2F.

CKF 2019 will pursue the vision of positive change through art, creativity and dialogue.

According to their event page, on Facebook, the two-day festival promises, through the outstanding line-up of visual artists, modern and traditional arts artists, actors, authors, poets, dancers, filmmakers and documentarians, musicians, musicians, comedians and storytellers, our little corner in Karachi megalopoli will become the bustling world of music, arts, food, creativity and fun.”

Scheduled to take place from Aug 30 till 31, the event will begin at 2 in the afternoon and will run till 10 at night. A total of 22 locally produced short feature length films will be screened during the two days. Films to screen on the first day include Sania Saeed-starrer U Turn by Zoya Hassan, Bohat Tyt by Hudaib Haider, Hawass by Nazish Jamal, Indus Blues by Jawad Sharif and Mauj Be Harkat Si by Sibtain Shabbir. Featuring artist Kaif Ghaznavi, Mauj Be Harkat Si – a film that talks about hope, empathy and emotions – recently won at the Best Shorts Competition 2019.

In addition to films, there will be a communal drumming exercise as Drum Circle will also be coming to the festival. Karachi Ke Nazaaray, a group exhibition showcasing works of various artists from Karachi, will also take place during the festival. Each artist, through diverse mediums, expresses diverse perspectives, narrations and interactions with the city and its environment.

Tickets cost PKR 500 and will be available at the gates.
