Moeen Ali signs for Cape Town Blitz in short-term move before T10 League commitments

Moeen Ali will fill in for Wahab Riaz, with the Pakistani left-armer now joining the franchise at the conclusion of his international commitments in Australia.

Moeen Ali has joined Mzansi Super League side Cape Town Blitz for the first two games of the competition.

He replaces Wahab Riaz, with the Pakistani left-armer now joining the franchise at the conclusion of his international commitments. He is currently part of his country’s T20 squad for their series against Australia.

The Worcestershire allrounder will be available for the game against Jozi Stars on November 8, followed by Blitz’s clash with Paarl Rocks two days later.

Moeen has been selected as an icon player in the T10 League for Team Abu Dhabi, coached by his former England boss Trevor Bayliss. That tournament begins five days after his second game in the South African T20 showpiece.

He said of his short-term move: “I’m very excited to be part of the MSL and joining Cape Town Blitz for the start of the tournament. I’m looking forward to playing with and against some world class players.”

Cape Town head coach Ashwell Prince added: “Moeen brings huge international experience to the team. And in county cricket, he won the T20 Blast in 2018 with Worcestershire Rapids and he led them to the 2019 final, so we’re looking forward to having him in Cape Town.”

Riaz will be available for selection for the team’s first home game of the competition against Jozi Stars on November 14.
