Javeria, Amin set up the sweep series of Pakistan

Javeria Khan’s second successive fifty helped Pakistan to a series sweep courtesy a 28-run victory in the third and final T20I against the visiting Bangladesh side on Wednesday (October 30) in Lahore.

Jahanara Alam (3 for 12) and Rumana Ahmed (2 for 22) did well to run through the hosts’ line up but the 67-run partnership with Javeria and Omaima Sohail (31) was enough to help Pakistan to 117/7, what eventually turned out to be a defendable score.

New ball bowlers Alam and PannaGosh struck early to send back Ayesha Zafar and Pakistan skipper Bismah Maroof early, but the third-wicket stand between Javeria and Sohail managed to resurrect the innings. The opener raised her second half-century of the series and went on to score 54 off 48 in a knock that consisted seven hits to the fence. Sohail, meanwhile, chipped in with 31 off 29 before Ahmed ran her out.

Javeria fell just as Pakistan went past the 100-run mark and with little contribution coming there after, Pakistan were restricted to 117 from their allotted overs.

However, Bangladesh couldn’t replicate a similar feat with the bat. Anam Amin’s twin strikes in the second over reduced the visitors to 2 for 2, which soon became 12 for 4 at the end of the seventh over.

Nigar Sultana and Fargana Hoque put up some fight courtesy their 53-run stand for the fifth-wicket but both fell on 65, in the space of three balls in the 16th over. Bangladesh’s challenge was all but over. Panna Gosh’s 10 later only delayed the inevitable as Bangladesh went down by 28 runs in the low-scoring encounter to concede the series 3-0.

Pakistan will now take on Bangladesh in a two-match ODI series to be played at Lahore.

Brief scores:Pakistan Women 117/7 in 20 overs (Javeria Khan 54, Omaima Sohail 31; Jahanara Alam 3-12, Rumana Ahmed 2-19) beat Bangladesh 89/8 in 20 overs (Nigar Sultana 30, Fargana Hoque 27; Anam Amin 2-10, Saba Nazir 2-22) by 28 runs.© Cricbuzz
